RJ2 Technologies is a managed IT provider in Deer Park, Illinois that has designed, installed and supported business phone systems for companies across Chicago and the Chicago suburbs since 1998. We assess what your offices actually need, recommend a VoIP platform, port your existing numbers, configure call flow and voicemail, and then support the system as part of your IT service rather than handing you off to a carrier support line. Because we already manage the network the phones run on, a call quality problem does not turn into an argument between two vendors. Most clients move to VoIP to cut line costs and to let people take their extension home or to a second office.
What is a VoIP phone system, and how is it different from what we have now?
VoIP carries calls over your internet connection instead of over dedicated phone lines, so the phone system lives in software rather than in a box in a closet. In practice that means you stop paying per line, extensions follow people to a laptop or a cell phone, and adding a user is a configuration change rather than a service call.
The tradeoff is that your phones now depend on your internet connection and your network, which is why the network assessment comes before the phone recommendation, not after. An office with a single unmanaged internet circuit and a consumer-grade switch will have call quality problems on any platform.
Which VoIP platforms does RJ2 support?
RJ2 recommends and supports a business VoIP platform based on what your offices need, and can take over support for a system you already own rather than forcing a replacement. Which platform fits depends on how many users you have, whether you need contact center features, and whether you are already standardized on Microsoft 365.
RJ2’s primary platform is SkyCom, its own white-labeled hosted phone service, which has an optional Microsoft Teams integration. RJ2 also partners with third-party providers, including Mitel, CoreDial, 8×8, Nextiva and Google.
Can we keep our existing phone numbers?
Yes. Existing numbers port to the new system, including your main published number and direct dials, and porting is a standard part of the cutover rather than an extra project.
Porting is a carrier-side process with a lead time, so it gets scheduled before the install date and the old service stays live until the port completes. Nobody loses calls on the changeover day.
What happens to our phones if the internet or power goes out?
Calls to your main number keep being answered, because the call routing lives in the cloud rather than in your building. When a site loses connectivity, inbound calls fail over to a rule you set in advance, most commonly forwarding to cell phones, to another office, or to voicemail with an automated notification.
That failover has to be configured deliberately before it is needed. RJ2 sets it up during implementation and it is one of the things worth re-testing annually.
Does a VoIP system integrate with Microsoft Teams?
A VoIP phone system can work with Microsoft Teams, and the right setup depends on how your organization already uses Microsoft 365. RJ2’s usual approach is SkyCom’s Teams integration, which runs as a softphone inside Teams. That gives more flexibility in how calling is deployed and lets RJ2 control and support the whole experience.
What else comes with unified communications besides calling?
Unified communications means voice, video conferencing, instant messaging and file sharing running on one platform under one login instead of four separate tools with four bills. The practical benefit is that a chat becomes a call becomes a screen share without anyone changing applications or sending a meeting link.
What is typically included:
- Voice calling, extensions, auto attendant and voicemail to email
- Audio and video conferencing
- Instant messaging between staff
- Secure file sharing inside the same platform
- Adding or removing users without a service visit, which is what the live page means by scalability
- Call reporting
Does RJ2 install phone systems in Chicago and the Chicago suburbs?
Yes. RJ2 is headquartered at 21660 W. Field Parkway, Deer Park, IL 60010, and installs and supports business phone systems throughout Chicago and the Chicago suburbs.
On-site work, including handset deployment, cabling checks and network remediation before a cutover, covers the Chicagoland area, and RJ2 also serves Rockford and northern Illinois, southeastern Wisconsin, and northwestern Indiana, with nationwide support for larger clients that have multiple locations. Engineers working downtown use a drop-in space at 333 S. Wabash Ave., Suite 2700. It is a working space, not a staffed office.
Multi-site companies are the common case here. One phone system across several suburban offices, with four-digit dialing between them, is usually the reason a company calls in the first place.
How do we get started?
Book a discovery call, or call 847-303-1194. The first step is an assessment of your current phone setup, your contract end dates and your network, because the network is what determines whether VoIP will work well in your building.
